Funding/Grant Foundations for Individuals

The Empowerment Fund provides resources and inspiration to those who suffer a life-changing injury. These include spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, amputation or other mobility-limiting injuries that occur in an individual's lifetime.
Grant funding in 3 cycles per year is paid to service providers in specific funding categories: adaptive sports equipment, healing network, medical equipment, programs, living expenses, and emergency care/injury expenses.

The Kelly Brush Foundation is dedicated to making active lifestyles a reality for anyone with a spinal cord injury. Life is better active!
Their Active Fund provides grants for individuals with paralysis caused by spinal cord injury to purchase adaptive sports equipment.
They believe in the power of sport and recreation to foster inclusion and overcome the barriers of paralysis. They have helped over 1700 people from 50 states purchase handcycles, mono-skis, sport chairs, racing chairs, hockey sleds, and much more.
Spring Active Fund is open from late January to late April. Fall Active Fund is open from June through late September.

The Move United Member Organization Grant Program is designed to support the programs of Move United’s Member Organization National Network.
The grant program is not for individual athletes or organizations who are not Move United Member Organizations

PossAbilities is a FREE community outreach program developed by the Loma Linda University Health. Its goal is to offer disabled individuals who were born with or have suffered a permanent physical injury a sense of community and a healthy social network.
Their mission is to provide new direction and hope through physical, social, and educational interaction with peers and their community. This free membership program is tailored to persons with physical disabilities such as limb amputation, stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, and others. -
Through the Variety Freedom Program, we change children’s lives by granting items and services that provide independence, mobility and freedom. Grants under the Freedom program are made to individual children and children’s organizations.
Resources for Nonprofit Organizations

Creating Opportunity & Independence (CO&I) grants support nonprofit organizations that provide programs and services that enhance quality of life for individuals and families living with spinal cord injury (SCI), including assistive technology. This year’s Letter of Intent closes on January 29, 2024 with Full Grant Applications due on April 19, 2024.

Pioneered by Dana Reeve, the Reeve Foundation Quality of Life Grants Program awards grants to nonprofit organizations that impact and empower people living with paralysis, their families and caregivers. Learn more about the program and find out how to apply.

This platform specifically caters to fundraising for mobility needs, such as wheelchairs, scooters, and other adaptive equipment.
Loans

The Massachusetts Alternative Finance Program improves the independence and quality of life of residents with disabilities through loan opportunities specifically for assistive technology devices and services. Individuals with disabilities and family members are encouraged to apply.

The FreedomTech Financial Loan Program provides Californians with affordable financial loans to purchase needed assistive technology. Our financial loans range from $500 to $15,000.

Northwest Access Fund offers financial products and services designed to meet the unique needs of people with disabilities and seniors in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.
Loan Details
-Up to $25,000 with up to a 5-year term for most kinds of assistive technology.
-Up to $60,000 with up to a 10-year term for home modification loans.
-Up to $60,000 with up to a 10-year term for adapted vehicle loans. A 10% down payment is required.
-Available to residents of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.
-No fees are charged.
-Loan interest rate is 5% APR for assistive technology loans, with the exception of adapted vehicle loans. Adapted loan interest rates are set by the Board and can vary monthly.
