The chair has been fabulous. Shortly after landing at the Lisbon Airport, we found out our bus had very little storage. Good thing the chair easily comes apart. In just a few minutes, with little instruction, our team loaded the chair!
At night as we walked through the square in Fatima, the chair easily glided over the stones.

Effie Nesin suffered a brain injury at birth called HIE (hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy) and subsequently has multiple medical diagnoses that include cerebral palsy, epilepsy, microcephaly, cortical vision impairment and global developmental delay. She is non-verbal and non-mobile but has an amazing spirit. She is loved and cared for by her parents April and Chris Nesin and her incredible godfather and caregiver Jeremy Gill who all live in Chattanooga, TN.
She has a very loving and supportive extended family as well and that's how we found the Advenchair! Effie was invited out to Bend, OR by her aunt Michelle Hunt for the families traditional 5th birthday trip (typically an unaccompanied minor trip, but she got to bring her caregivers), which was delayed due to COVID. The family all enjoy outdoor activities and in researching adaptive options in Bend, April came across the Advenchair!
Effie's parents committed early on to being open about her diagnoses and life in order that others can learn from her and also about inclusion. Although life does not look the way they expected and many days are hard...the family is committed to making sure that Effie lives HER best life and experiences as many things as possible! The Advenchair will help her and the family be more active and explore more of the world! We LOVE that this piece of equipment can be with her throughout her life and not have to be replaced in a couple of years!

“My daughter was in hospice care and the family used the AdvenChair to allow her to tour her farm. She was excited because she never thought that she could get in the woods like this again and thought it was wonderful to be able to get around the farm together, even just to collect the eggs. My seven-year-old granddaughter called the AdvenChair ‘EPIC’ and was impressed that her aunt could be on the hike”. Sarah passed away shortly after the tour.

We were so lucky that Geoff reached out to us with the opportunity for the Advenchair at the Northwest Outdoor Science School. We have been able to provide access for at least ten different students this school year, for reasons spanning from a physical disability to injury-related mobility issues. Having the Advenchair on hand has been the reason that these students were able to attend Outdoor School and still participate in the hiking, games, and field-based science activities. Not only that, but Geoff occasionally came up to the Portland area from Bend to meet directly with students who would need to be fitted to the chair in advance of their week at Outdoor School. The impact of this was palpable - I watched these students see themselves in Geoff, and realize that their disability is not a barrier to doing amazing things.
Geoff and the Advenchair has our entire staff feeling more prepared to meet our students' needs, and to be advocates for disability justice in our own lives. He leads trainings with our staff and is always available to help us when we have questions about the Advenchair. Outdoor School would not be as accessible without him!
Our staff members are regularly people who will push the Advenchair and adjust it for students. They report that it is easy to use and maneuver, and again, Geoff is there every step of the way when we have questions.
We are so grateful for our partnership with Advenchair and will do everything in our power to advocate for its use at all Outdoor School programs.

My dad has Parkinson's and dementia and isn't very mobile, especially on uneven ground. I had called all around to find a chair to get my dad out on the River Trail, and to my surprise – in this town that rents all manner of bikes, even six-passenger surreys, SUPs and boats and skis – nobody had anything. Then I found Geoff Babb, who happened to be in town, and let me try out the AdvenChair. It was exactly what I was hoping for. It totally made it possible for us to get out into the outdoors my dad used to spend so much time in. It tracks well on uneven ground, even at running speed, and its wheelbase makes it stable.
